#Why we created and released NEScss.live

We built NEScss.live, a NES-style (8bit-like) CSS framework. Here’s the story behind it—our goals, the background of development, and what we value.

And we hope you’ll love NEScss.live, even just a little.

Simple and Minimal

The core concept of NEScss.live is Simple & Minimal.

We like Simple

  • The complexity of CSS creates bugs.
  • Complexity prevents confident changes.
  • Complexity makes maintenance troublesome.
  • Complexity discourages contribution.

So we optimize for clarity and keep the surface area small.

We like Minimal

  • We prefer a CSS-only core.
  • We avoid unnecessary utilities and helpers.
  • We focus on components that feel great and get out of your way.

Large frameworks try to be everything to everyone. NEScss.live keeps the essentials and leaves the rest to you.

And yes—we respect and appreciate the amazing work behind existing frameworks.

Just have fun

We wanted to enjoy the process. NEScss.live is a celebration of playful, nostalgic design and the craft of keeping things lightweight.
